The rod, a normal one, used especially on the old sundials, was preferred here in place of a polar one, due to the tiny space available on the chimney.

The reading of the time is carried out taking into consideration only the extremity of the stick.

The pictorial work is characterized by the presence of a luminous full moon, and by the image of a barn owl, symbol of the night.
