The slight inclination
of the line of the equinox (in this case from right to left,
going upwards) demonstrates that the wall is facing south, and
thus marks all the hours of the day.
If the line of the equinox
was horizontal, the wall would be perfectly south facing,
without any declination, and the lines of the hours would reach
their maximum width.
