The originality of this gnomonic instrument is created by the shadow of the numbers of the hours which frame the instrument; when they are struck by the sun, they project their shadow onto the iron plate, and the central line marked on the plate – called the polar plate – represents the meridian of the instrument, which in this case works like the hand of a clock.
