The tip of the shade of
the gnomon indicates, besides the solar time, the period of the
calendar year in which the reading is taking place.
The picture of this
sundial was taken in a period close to the winter solstice
(December 22nd): on such date the tip of the shade of
the gnomon runs along the top hyperbole and marks all the hours
of the day. |
