The gnomon rod has the same shape of the standard located in Piazza Grande in Palmanova, and its extreme tip is its indicating point (gnomon).

The gnomon is indicating approximately ten past eleven, Aiello meantime, and, as the picture was taken in spring, we can deduce from the tip of the shade of the gnomon shadow on the quadrant that it is the beginning of May.
